Families visiting their local Morrisons Café throughout the October half term holidays can enjoy a free ‘Kellogg’s Breakfast’, which includes a bowl of cereal and a portion of fruit. The best part, it’s not just for kids, adults get to eat completely free too.

Well done to our New Starters in Reception

It has been lovely to see our new cohort of children settle into our Reception class. We are sure they will have both a great time and make great progress this year. Keep a look out for parent events where we can guide you on how we teach phonics and other aspects of learning.

Helmets for bike and scooter users

Thank you to all the parents that are sending their children with helmets! It is not always easy convincing children to do this - we understand this. The increasing amount of head injuries in young children make the wearing of helments a "no brainer" - and that is why we want to do our bit in encouraging this.

Children who arrive at school with a bike or scooter without a helmet will not be allowed to leave their bike or scooter at school. Please avoid me having the conversation with you by having your child wear a helmet.

Words matter

Children are sponges when it comes to learning. So quickly do they pick up new words that are being modelled by adults - just watch them "play school" and mimic their teachers! I dread to think.

They will also mimic your language. The last few years at our "New Starter Parent Meeting" I have included a slide stating:

Do not swear in front of your child.

If you find your partner or friend spicing up their language when children are around (or even the potential of children being around, i.e. near school), please give them a gentle nudge that this is something we are trying to avoid our children learning.

Allergies

It is difficult to understand the impact of allergies when you have no direct experience of them. A friend of mine's son is allergic to milk and eggs - he is 27 now, but there have been some tricky moments. I was involved with preparing food for a weekend together - there are so many items that contain milk and egg!

We cannot mitigate for everything - but we can for many things. The most basic is do not give nuts or nut based food as a packed lunch, which will include chocolate spread. Many chocolate spreads will still have the warning "may contain nuts". You can get "certified nut free" and if this is required, please come and speak to me.

We have drafted our Allergy Safety Policy, which we want to share with those parents of children do currently have significant allergies to understand their views.

We have updated our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy to be in line with the new Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 guidance.

Main changes include:

The national introduction of the Families First Partnership Programme
Guidance on supporting pupils who are questioning their gender
Mobile phones in schools
Serious violence
Harmful sexual behaviour (HSB), sexual harassment and sexual violence
All staff expected to read part 1 of KCSIE in full
