Admissions & Attendance

Admissions

Thank you very much for considering sending your child to Thorogate School.  We know this is a significant decision that needs to be well thought through.  We would encourage you to visit us so you are able to 'see, hear and feel' the school in action.  We do not have 'open days' and you are always welcome - we would ask you to phone first to check that we do not have something special on that makes showing you around school difficult.

We do not have an official 'feeder school' - your child's previous setting has no bearing on admissions and children transfer to Thorogate School from a variety of settings.  They include:

Thorogate School has room for 30 children in each of our 7 classes.  In Key Stage 1 (FS2, Y1 & Y2), this number is rarely exceeded because of class size legislation.  In KS2 (Y3, Y4, Y5 & Y6) this can be exceeded in exceptional circumstances on appeal to the LA.

Rotherham LA is our admissions authority and all admissions are processed through them.  They can be contacted on 01709 382121, asking for primary school admissions, or using the Council Website (where you will also find the admissions policy and appeals process).

Attendance

As is the case in all schools, good levels of attendance is an expectation.  At Thorogate School we work with the parents to ensure pupils maintain a good level of attendance as they journey through school.  In a very few number of cases, Thorogate School will involve outside agencies to help, such as when for medical reasons a pupil misses significant amounts of schooling.

Where there is not an appropriate reason for poor attendance, Thorogate School will always put the case forward to RMBC for penalty notices to be issued.

The Thorogate School Attendance Policy can be found here.
