How can I support my child at home?

Thorogate School is very aware that parents remain a child's first educator and that we need to work in partnership with parents to ensure pupils achieve their potential. The specific home support will depend on the needs of the child but as guidelines:

  • Speak to your child's class teacher and ask them for specific advice on supporting your child's learning.

  • Positively encourage the completion of homework by ensuring your child has the time to do it (frequent small amounts of time is better than rushed blocks of time the evening before it is due).

  • Read with your child every day - this includes children in older classes all the way up to Year 6.

  • Talk to your child about their learning, taking an interest in what they have done and celebrating their successes.
