Rawmarsh Thorogate School is a one form entry school with seven classes - starting with Reception and finishing with Year 6. This means there are places for 210 children - we work hard to serve our community well and as a result we are fortunate to be a popular choice with parents.

The classrooms are of above average size and have an airy feel to them. The school is well resourced: enthusiastic and welcoming teachers, full time teaching assistants in every year group, each class has an Interactive Whiteboard and at least two PCs, we have 1:1 Chromebooks in most classes, a well stocked Infant and Junior Library and outdoor facilities that engage both learning and sporting activities.

It is not unusual for visitors to mention how calm and engaged our pupils are in class - together with parents we work hard in achieving this.  We encourage pupil independence seeking to maximise both their academic progress and social understanding of themselves and the world they live in.

We believe technology can enhance learning in many ways and this is regularly used in the classrooms.  Chromebooks, iPads and PCs are widely used, with the school being a Google Workspace for Education user.

Active play and PE is a feature of the school.  We are fortunate to have two well sized playgrounds, a MUGA (multi use games area), a field, a tyre park and a challenging climbing frame.  We attend most school sporting events, often taking more than one team - participation is important and we have an excellent PE Coach who teaches PE across the school.

The majority of children transfer at the end of Year 6 to Rawmarsh Community School: A Sports College, but other 'local' secondary schools include St Pius X (Wath), Swinton Academy and Wath Comprehensive School.
