Book at Bedtime and World Book Day 2019

Adults reading to children is just as important (if not more important) as children reading to an adult. As the children have participated so well in previous years, we thought it would be a fun and rewarding idea to re-run a ‘Book at Bedtime’ competition.

This will begin on Friday 15th February. We know many of you have wonderful bedtime reading habits. But we also know how easy it is for busy lifestyles to break these habits. For the next 21 days, we would like parents and carers to try and read to their child/children a book, or part of a book, at bedtime. It may be a family favourite or one borrowed from the school or local library.

We would like to celebrate the ‘Book at Bedtime’ competition with a fancy dress day on the last day of the competition which coincides with World Book Day, Thursday 7th March. On World Book Day your child can come to school wearing pyjamas/nightwear and bring a favourite bedtime story. Our aim for this day is to celebrate our love for reading and we will organise activities in class linked to reading.

Please refer to the chart below (or download by following this link) where you can see the days of the competition with logos appended. Each time when you read to your child/children, please sign your name across the logo and return the chart to school on the last day of each week. During half term week please continue to read and bring your sheet in the first Friday back and you will receive two raffle tickets. Every child who has shared a book every day of that week and returned their sheet to school on every Friday, will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into a book prize draw. Please note, sheets not returned on a Friday for checking will not be given a raffle ticket. Children who have completed and returned their sheets to school each week for the entire competition, will receive a golden ticket and automatically receive a prize!

In addition to this we are holding a scholastic book fair on the week commencing Monday 11th March where you can come and buy books. Your World Book Day vouchers can be used to pay towards books available at this fair. We will let you know more details of opening times of the fair nearer the time.
