Values and Ethos

The principle aim of Rawmarsh Thorogate School is to enable the pupils to achieve their potential academically and socially in a safe and stimulating environment.

We aim to create a happy, caring and secure environment in which pupils will become socially confident, considerate towards others and will reach their true potential…. academically, morally and physically.

We endeavour to ensure that there are healthy caring relationships within each class and the whole school and that these positive relationships spread to include the wider community.

We would want to ensure a partnership approach with all parents and carers, welcoming their views, the opportunity to discuss pupil progress and ways forward to overcome any issues. We will ensure parents are provided with clear and timely information on how well their child is progressing and how well their child is doing in relation to expected standards. Parents are given guidance about how to support their child to improve. We expect parents to challenge us to ensure their children are given the right opportunities. We also expect their support in implementing the school policies; including the school’s behaviour policy and homework policy.

We aim to give emphasis to the development of sound basic skills, particularly in English, mathematics, science and IT, and to promote high standards of personal achievement in all our pupils.

We seek to foster lively enquiring and independent minds, through a love of learning and resilience to failure. We encourage curious, interested learners who seek out and use new information to develop, consolidate and deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills. We expect pupils to thrive in lessons and also regularly take up opportunities to learn through extra-curricular activities.

We will aim to promote a positive attitude towards the immediate environment and a sense of responsibility towards the world at large.

Together we promote Respect, Responsibility and Fun: whilst in Pursuit of Excellence.
